Abstract
Teucrium polium L. is medicinal plant from Lamiaceae. This plant is used for treatment of many diseases such as Hypertension, Diarrhea, Diabetes, Chronicgastro and Bacterial diseases, Carminative and Anti-seizure. The antioxidant activity of T.polium is well documented by different assays and is widely used in food industry. The aim of this experiment is investigation of callus induction rate from leaf and terminal bud explants of T.polium in B5 and MS cultures and determination of optimum media culture. Leaf and terminal bud explants were cultured on B5 and MS media with various concentrations of 2,4-D hormone (0, 0.5, 1,1.5, 2 mg.L-1). Callus induction rate and fresh weight were measured at the end of 8th week. The results indicate that leaf explants had better response than terminal bud explants in callus induction. On the other hand treatment with 2,4-D had positive effect in comparison with control. Although the most fresh weight was measured in terminal bud on MS media with 0.5 mg.L-1 2,4-D, B5 media had the best effect on callus growth. 2,4-D is an auxin with positive effect on callus induction; these positive effects were also observed on callus induction in our experiment.
